migrating mbsync/maildir from one machine to another?

What is the best practice for migrating mbsync and locally stored mail
from one machine to another (where the system-name may differ)? I have
quite a large amount of local mail, and I don't really want to have to
pull it down again from the remote storage.

you can just copy the folder and the state files. just make sure that no
sync runs while you're copying.

if you mean the filenames in the maildirs, they are meaningless as you
could have easily googled.
